Trouble passing the liveness check?

This article covers two issues you might run into during the test system check: the liveness (blink) check not passing, and face detection not loading at all.

Liveness check failing

The liveness check helps us confirm that a real person is taking the test (and not a photo or video).
If it’s not working for you, don’t worry, this usually happens due to blink speed, lighting, or visibility, and it’s easy to fix.

What the system is checking

We’re looking for a natural, slow eye blink that the camera can clearly detect.
Blinking too fast or too forcefully can sometimes be missed by the system.

How to pass the liveness check

Follow these steps carefully before trying again:

1. Blink slowly and naturally

  • Look directly at the camera

  • Close your eyes slowly (about 1 second)

  • Open them again slowly

  • Avoid rapid or repeated blinking

Tip: One calm, slow blink works better than many fast blinks.

2. Check your lighting

  • Make sure light is in front of your face, not behind you

  • Avoid sitting with a bright window or lamp behind you

  • Your eyes and face should be clearly visible on screen

3. Reduce glare and obstructions

  • If you’re wearing glasses, try removing them to avoid glare

  • Make sure nothing covers your eyes (hair, cap, shadows)

4. Stay still and relaxed

  • Keep your head steady

  • Don’t rush the action

  • There’s no time pressure take a moment and blink calmly

Face detection failed to load

If you see an error like "Failed to load face detection models" during your system check — before you even get to the blink step — this is a different, less common issue. It's usually caused by your internet connection or a browser setting called graphics acceleration.

1. Check your internet connection

Make sure you have a stable connection before retrying. A weak or interrupted connection can prevent the face detection models from loading.

2. Enable graphics acceleration in your browser

This setting is usually turned on by default, but if it's been switched off, face detection won't load.

In Chrome:

  • Go to Settings → System

  • Turn on "Use graphics acceleration when available"

  • Restart your browser

  • Return to the assessment and try again

Still not working?

If the check fails after multiple attempts:

  • Refresh the page and try again

  • Recheck lighting and camera clarity

  • Follow the steps above slowly
