Some candidates may attempt to set up an external monitor or screen during an online test in hopes of using additional resources or accessing information that would give them an unfair advantage. For instance, a candidate might connect an external display to look at notes, Google answers, or even collaborate with another individual during the test.

However, WeCP's platform is designed to maintain the highest standards of integrity during assessments. Any such attempt to use external displays is automatically flagged, and the candidate is prevented from proceeding with the test.

System Check Failure: External Monitor Detected

Before candidates can begin a WeCP assessment, they must pass a series of system checks. One of these checks involves ensuring that no external monitors or screens are connected to the candidate’s device.

As seen in the screenshot, if the system detects an external display connected to the candidate’s device, the System Check will fail under "Browser Compatibility." The error message advises the candidate to disconnect any external display devices before they can proceed.

What Happens When an External Screen is Detected?

  1. System Check Failure: The system will automatically detect any external screens or monitors connected to the candidate's setup and will flag it as a violation. As shown in the image, the system check for browser compatibility will fail.

  2. Inability to Start the Test: If a candidate has an external monitor or screen connected, they will not be allowed to proceed to the next steps of the test. The system will prevent the candidate from accessing any part of the exam until the external device is removed.

  3. Clear Instructions to Disconnect: The candidate will be instructed to disconnect any external displays. Once the external monitor is disconnected, they can run the system check again to proceed with the test.

  4. Test Integrity Ensured: This detection helps ensure the integrity of the WeCP assessments, ensuring that all candidates are taking the test under the same conditions and without unauthorized resources.

Example Scenario

Let’s say a candidate preparing for a coding interview might decide to connect an external monitor to run a different browser window or display notes for quick reference. When this candidate tries to start the WeCP test, they will immediately encounter a System Check failure due to the external display. The system will block the candidate from continuing and will prompt them to disconnect the external monitor to ensure a fair testing environment. Only once they remove the external monitor will they be able to proceed with the exam.

How to Avoid Issues

Candidates are advised to:

  • Use a single display when taking WeCP assessments.

  • Ensure that no external devices, such as additional monitors or projectors, are connected.

  • Follow all test guidelines for the best testing experience and to avoid being flagged by the system.

WeCP takes test integrity very seriously, and any attempts to bypass the system through external hardware will result in immediate failure of the system checks. This ensures fairness and uniformity for all candidates taking the assessment.
