How to Install Sherlock on Your Operating System

Installing Sherlock

Automatic Installation from Test Page

  • When you click the Install button before starting the test, Sherlock will automatically download the appropriate version based on your operating system:

    • Windows Users: The Windows .exe file will be downloaded.

    • Mac Users: The correct .dmg file for either Apple Silicon or Intel will be downloaded based on your system architecture.

Manual Installation

If you need to install Sherlock manually, follow the steps below:

Windows

  1. Run the Installer:

    • Locate the downloaded .exe file and double-click to start the installation.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions and select the desired installation directory.

  2. Complete Installation:

    • Click "Finish" once the installation is complete.

    • Launch Sherlock from the Start menu or Desktop shortcut.

Mac

  1. Install the Application:

    • Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag the Sherlock icon into the Applications folder.

  2. Complete Installation:

    • Open Sherlock from the Applications folder.

    • If you get a security warning, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security, and click "Open Anyway" under "Security" settings.

Granting Permissions

Sherlock is a powerful tool that requires access to your camera, microphone, and screen sharing to function properly. This guide will walk you through installing Sherlock on Windows and Mac and configuring the necessary permissions.

Windows (Allowing Camera, Microphone & Screen Share)

  1. Camera & Microphone Permissions:

    • Open Settings (Win + I).

    • Navigate to Privacy & security > Camera (or Microphone).

    • Ensure "Allow apps to access your camera/microphone" is turned on.

    • Scroll down to "Let desktop apps access your camera/microphone" and enable it for Sherlock.

  2. Screen Sharing Permissions:

    • Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics.

    • Find Sherlock in the list (or click "Browse" to add it manually).

    • Set it to "High Performance" if needed for optimal performance.

Mac (Allowing Camera, Microphone & Screen Share)

  1. Open Security Settings:

    • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security.

  2. Grant Camera & Microphone Access:

    • Select Camera and Microphone.

    • Find Sherlock in the list and toggle ON the permission.

  3. Enable Screen Sharing:

    • Navigate to Screen Recording.

    • Enable permission for Sherlock.

    • You may need to restart Sherlock for changes to take effect.
